EXERCISE 1.4: Sоurces оf Heаt Sоme of the heаt thаt affects geologic processes comes from the Sun and some comes from inside the Earth. To begin to understand what role each of these heat sources plays in Earth processes, a simple experiment can be conducted by using a heat lamp to represent heat from the Sun, and a hot plate to represent the Earth’s internal heat. Read through the experiment procedures, then use the filled-out “Sources of Heat Data” table to answer the questions. Part 1.e. Based on this conclusion, is the Sun’s energy or the Earth’s internal heat the cause of melting of rock within the Earth? Explain.
