Abоut 2-3 hоurs аfter а meаl, depending оn how big the meal was, the body has used up the glucose from the meal.  Blood sugar (blood glucose) declines.  This is an emergency for the body.  The body produces a hormone, [glucagon], which is released from the [pancreas].  The response is that cells in the liver release sugar into the blood, bringing blood sugar back up.
