This portion of the exam is worth 25 points. There are a total of 5 questions. Choose ONLY 3 questions to answer for grading. Please note, that no more than 3 questions will be graded. If you answer more than three questions, I will only grade the first three questions that you responded to. Therefore, if you do not want a question graded, please delete it from the answer box. All questions are weighted equally.  1) Water plays a vital role in many biological systems and medical processes. Describe two physical properties that differ between liquid water and water vapor (gaseous state). Then, explain how these differences relate to the behavior of water molecules at the atomic level in each state. 2) A patient is prescribed 1.2 grams of ampicillin to be administered intravenously every 6 hours. This is considered one dose. The hospital pharmacy stocks ampicillin in vials labeled 600 mg per vial. How many vials are needed to prepare one dose of 1.2 grams of ampicillin? Round your answer to the nearest whole vial if necessary. You must show or explain your steps to receive credit for this problem. 3) Only one stable isotope of gold exists, and it contains 116 neutrons and 79 protons. Write the symbol  for this stable isotope of gold using proper isotopic notation. 4) Water (H₂O) is a critical molecule in the human body, involved in everything from nutrient transport to temperature regulation. Is water (H₂O) a polar or nonpolar molecule? Justify your answer by describing its molecular shape and how electrons are distributed. 5) The following is a Lewis dot structure for a drug used to improve walking in patients with MS.  a. Identify the molecular geometry/shape of the circled carbon atom in the above molecule. b. Identify whether single, double, or triple covalent bonds are present. Provide at least one example of each type found in the molecule (if applicable).
