A woman went to an art gallery and falsely represented that she was an agent for a museum and wanted to purchase a painting that was hanging in the gallery. The woman and the gallery owner then agreed on a price for the painting to be paid 10 days later, and the woman took the painting. When the gallery failed to receive the payment when due, the owner called the museum and discovered that the woman did not work there. The owner then notified the police. When interviewed by the police, the woman admitted making the false representation and acquiring the painting, but she said she believed that the painting had been stolen from her by someone who worked in the gallery. Is the woman guilty of obtaining property by false pretenses?

You will submit your full responses to these TWO questions in the Exam 4 Submission Assignment. Your submission will be scored and points added to your exam score.  Remember that you must submit the file as a single .pdf file. Multiple files and/or pictures will not be accepted.  Problem 1 A car company claims that the mean gas mileage for its luxury sedan is at least 23 miles per gallon. You believe the claim is too high and the mileage is really less than the claim. A random sample of 5 cars has a mean gas mileage of 22 miles per gallon and a standard deviation of 4 miles per gallon. It is okay to assume the population is normally distributed. At α = 0 . 05 , do you have evidence that the mean gas mileage is actually less than 23 miles per gallon? Complete all steps of a hypothesis test for your answer.  (a) State the hypotheses. (b) Sketch a Normal Model and indicate the critical value for the  α level given.  (c) Calculate a test statistic and p-value.  (d) State your conclusion. Problem 2 A researcher claims that 85% of Americans think that they are unlikely to contract the Zika virus. In a random sample of 250 Americans, 225 think they are unlikely to contract the Zika virus. At α = 0 . 05 , is there enough evidence to say the proportion of Americans who think they are unlikely to contract the Zika virus is different from 85%? Complete all steps of a hypothesis test for your answer.  (a) State the hypotheses. (b) Sketch a Normal Model and indicate the critical value for the  α level given.  (c) Calculate a test statistic and p-value.  (d) State your conclusion. Capture72(2).PNG

A firstborn child was examined as an infant by a doctor who was a specialist in the diagnosis of speech and hearing impairments. Although the doctor should have concluded that the infant was totally deaf due to a hereditary condition, the doctor negligently concluded that the infant’s hearing was normal. After the diagnosis, but before they learned that the infant was in fact deaf, the parents conceived a second child who also suffered total deafness due to the hereditary condition. The parents claim that they would not have conceived the second child had they known of the high probability of the hereditary condition. They have sought the advice of their attorney regarding which negligence action against the doctor is most likely to succeed. What sort of action against the doctor should the attorney recommend?
