A third-century Chinese historian recounted the history of neighboring Japan. He explained that after having 70-80 years of warfare and disturbances with male rulers, Japan turned to their first woman ruler, an alleged sorceress named [BLANK-1]. This female ruler brought peace and stability to Japan, though she allegedly practiced magic and sorcery, bewitched people, and had one thousand women as her attendants. Upon her death, a king was crowned, but once again the land returned to habits of violence and murder. The violence only ended when the sorceress-queen’s female relative, Iyo, took the throne.
