Pаssаge 5 1Stаff members оf the USA Tоday newspaper analyzed infоrmation about 1.2 million speeding tickets that were issued in 2002, and then they compared that information to speeding tickets issued from 1991 to 1996. 2They found that drivers' speeds have been steadily increasing over the last decade. 3As a matter of fact, in 1991, only 2 percent of speeders had been clocked at 100 miles per hour or faster, while in 2002, that proportion had jumped to 10 percent. 4Highway speed limits have increased by as much as a third in the last ten years, but today's drivers are driving further above these limits than they did above the old limits. 5The study also indicated that police are generally ignoring drivers who speed at 10 to 15 miles per hour over the limit. 6Clearly, speeding is becoming a bigger and bigger problem on America's roads.
