Thrоughоut this semester, we hаve exаmined texts thаt explоre the development of identity, the transition from youth to adulthood, and the challenges of personal growth—key elements of the bildungsroman, or coming-of-age narrative. For this essay, you will draw on both our course readings and at least one research-based article you have brought to class on the concept of the bildungsroman and/or coming-of-age literature. Prompt:Write a well-developed essay analyzing how one or more characters from the texts we have studied this semester reflect or challenge the conventions of the bildungsroman, with particular attention to the character’s journey toward self-awareness (including key experiences or conflicts that shape their identity), and the extent to which the character ultimately conforms to or resists the traditional expectations of a coming-of-age narrative.
