Questions

Review the fоllоwing аbstrаct. Select which type оf evidence is best described in the аbstract below.  Background: Monoclonal antibody therapies have transformed the management of severe asthma, offering targeted relief for adolescents whose symptoms persist despite conventional treatment. Yet, little is known about how young people experience these therapies, physically, emotionally, and socially, during a critical period of identity formation and autonomy.  Objective: To explore the lived experiences of adolescents undergoing monoclonal antibody treatment for severe asthma, focusing on their perceptions of symptom control, treatment burden, identity, and relationships with caregivers and healthcare providers.  Methods: Using a phenomenological approach, semi-structured interviews were conducted with 12 adolescents aged 13–17 receiving biologic therapy for asthma across two urban pediatric clinics. Interviews were transcribed verbatim and analyzed thematically using Braun and Clarke’s six-phase framework. Reflexive journaling and member checking enhanced credibility and trustworthiness.  Results: Four major themes emerged: (1) A sense of relief and regained normalcy; (2) Emotional and logistical burdens tied to treatment routines; (3) Tensions between health identity and peer belonging; and (4) The impact of collaborative, respectful healthcare relationships. Participants described Xolair as life-changing but emotionally complex, with nuanced views on independence, stigma, and trust.  Conclusion: Adolescents receiving monoclonal antibody therapies for asthma navigate a delicate balance between physical improvement and psychosocial challenges. Their voices highlight the need for developmentally sensitive care models that honor autonomy, reduce stigma, and foster therapeutic alliance. These findings can inform nursing education, clinical practice, and future research aimed at improving adolescent-centered asthma management.
