Scenаriо: Rurаl Nоrthern Cаpe: Alcоhol Reduction and Health Behaviour ChangeIn a small farming community in the Northern Cape, hazardous alcohol consumption is a growing public health concern, particularly among men aged 25–45. Many individuals engage in regular binge drinking over weekends, contributing to increased rates of interpersonal violence, road accidents, and poor adherence to chronic medication such as hypertension treatment.A local primary healthcare clinic has introduced a behaviour change programme based on the Transtheoretical Model to support individuals in reducing alcohol consumption. The programme includes counselling sessions, peer support groups, and community awareness campaigns.During implementation, healthcare workers observe the following:Some individuals do not see their drinking as a problem and avoid attending sessions.Others acknowledge the risks but feel unmotivated to change.A few have started reducing their alcohol intake but struggle with relapse during social gatherings. Some participants actively attend support groups and report sustained behaviour change.
