The аntivirаl drug аcyclоvir is a base analоg structurally similar tо deoxyguanosine. It is highly effective at stopping the herpes virus from replicating in infected human cells, yet it leaves the patient's surrounding, non-replicating healthy cells relatively unharmed. Why are the patient’s healthy, non-dividing tissue cells largely unaffected by the drug?
