Required Paper Structure 1. Introduction Include: Attention getter (quote, question, or scenario) Relevance (why this matters) Credibility statement Thesis statement (must include your skill + research focus) Preview of main sections Example Thesis:"This paper examines how improving active listening can strengthen relationships by comparing my original research findings with existing communication studies." 2. Literature Review (Existing Research) Summarize key findings from your sources Identify patterns or agreements among researchers Highlight at least one key claim you will compare your results to later 3. Methodology (Your Research Design) Explain: What method you chose (survey, interview, observation) Why you chose it Who participated (you don't need to give specific names, only a demographic description of them) What questions you asked or what you observed 4. Results (Your Findings) Summarize what you found (do not just list responses) 5. Comparison to Existing Research (REQUIRED SECTION) This is the most important part of the assignment. You must: Compare your findings to your sources Explain similarities and differences Provide reasons for those similarities/differences Required: Include at least 3 comparison statements, such as: "This supports the findings of..." "In contrast to [author]..." "While previous research suggests..., my data shows..." 6. Personal Application What did you learn about your communication? What will you change or improve? How will you apply this moving forward? 7. Conclusion Restate your thesis Summarize key insights End with a strong final thought Presentation Component You will present a brief summary of your project. Your presentation must include: Your communication skill/topic Your research method One key finding One comparison between your research and existing research
