1. A thermаl energy stоrаge unit cоnsists оf а large rectangular channel, which is well insulated on its outer surface and encloses alternating flow passages and layers of storage material - aluminum slab. Each slab has a width of 0.05m and an initial temperature of 25 0C (k = 231 W/m⋅K, c = 1033 J/kg⋅K, ρ= 2702 kg/m3). If the unit is charged by hot gas at a constant temperature of 600 0C flowing through the passages and the convection heat transfer coefficient is 100 W/m2.0C, (a) (6 pts) How long will it take to achieve 75% of the maximum possible energy storage? (b) (4 pts) What is the temperature of the aluminum at this time? (c) (3 pts) Is there any advantage to use copper (k = 398 W/m.K, c = 400 J/kg.K, ρ= 8900 kg/m3) instead of aluminum and briefly explain why?
