The custоmer service depаrtment оf the Mаcy Stоre hаs a waiting room in which chair is placed along a wall, forming a single waiting line. Customers come with questions or complaints or matters regarding credit-card bills. The customers are served by 3 store representatives, each located in a partitioned stall. Customers treated on a first-come, first-served basis. The store management wants to analyze this queuing system because excessive waiting times can make customers angry enough to shop at other stores. A study of service department for a 6 month period shows that an average of 10 customers arrive per hour, and a clerk is capable of taking an customer in an average of 6 minutes. Arrivals tend to follow a Poisson distribution, and service times tend to be exponential. The clerk is paid $20 per hour, but because of lost goodwill and sales, Macy’s losses about $100 per hour of customer time spent waiting for the clerk to take a service. Let P0 = 0.3636. (must show all your work)1. How many customers, on average, are waiting in the waiting room? 2. Determine the average waiting time (in hours) for customer under current system? 3. What is the total operating cost per hour under current system?
