This president promised a “Return to Normalcy” following WWI, kept the United States largely out of foreign affairs, and staffed federal regulatory agencies with anti-regulatory, pro-business conservatives (a policy that largely contributed to the Great Depression). He died in office of a heart attack, perhaps brought on by the notoriety of his numerous scandals, including the Teapot Dome Scandal, his reliance on corrupt friends from Ohio known as the Ohio Gang, and the revelation of his extramarital affair with Nan Britton.
