Sоfiа is а sаles representative fоr Nоrthern AirSafe, an Edmonton-based company that sells connected gas-detection equipment, lone-worker monitoring devices, and safety-management software to industrial customers across Alberta. Her manager has asked her to develop new business because several major accounts have reduced spending this year. Sofia has identified three possible leads: Lead A — RidgeRock EnergyA mid-sized oil and gas producer operating several remote sites in northern Alberta. RidgeRock recently posted several HSE positions and announced that it is expanding field operations. One of Sofia’s existing customers knows RidgeRock’s Safety Manager and has offered to make an introduction. Sofia does not yet know whether RidgeRock is reviewing its current safety equipment or whether funding has been allocated. Lead B — Westline FabricationA small fabrication company with approximately 35 employees. Sofia met the owner at a networking event. The owner mentioned that employee safety is important but said their current equipment is “working fine.” Westline has limited field activity and operates from one facility. Lead C — Apex Industrial ServicesA large industrial contractor with hundreds of employees working at customer sites throughout Western Canada. Someone from Apex recently downloaded Northern AirSafe’s guide titled Reducing Risk for Remote Workers. Sofia has identified the Director of Safety on LinkedIn but has never spoken with them. Apex appears to use a competitor’s equipment today. Using the lead qualification criteria from Chapter 2, evaluate each of the three leads in terms of need, authority/access, ability, potential, and purchasing alignment and explain which information is known versus still needs to be investigated (6 marks). Rank the three leads in the order Sofia should pursue them and justify your #1 priority (2 marks). For Sofia’s highest-priority prospect, identify and fully explain two social-selling actions she should take before or during her initial outreach. Your recommendations should demonstrate how social selling could make the contact more relevant or credible rather than simply becoming another cold sales message (4 marks).

Mаrcus sells cоmmerciаl energy-mаnagement systems fоr Vertex Building Intelligence, a Calgary cоmpany that helps large organizations monitor energy consumption and optimize HVAC systems. Vertex has been approached by Prairie Health Network, which operates several healthcare facilities across Alberta. Prairie Health has never used a centralized energy-management platform across its facilities. Rising utility costs have caused the Director of Facilities, Angela Wong, to begin investigating possible solutions. Angela believes there is a strong opportunity to reduce energy costs and has asked Marcus for information. However, several other people are becoming involved: Raj Patel, Facilities Supervisor, will use the system regularly and is concerned about whether it will be difficult for maintenance staff to operate. Nicole Chen, Director of IT, wants to review cybersecurity, integration, and data-storage requirements before approving any connected system. David Morrison, CFO, will approve the investment only if the financial savings can justify the cost. Erin Lewis, Procurement Manager, will manage the competitive bidding process, negotiate terms, and issue the purchase order. Prairie Health is currently gathering information from several suppliers and developing the criteria it will use to compare possible solutions. Identify the type of purchase Prairie Health is making and explain two characteristics of the situation that support your answer (3 marks). Using the buying-centre framework from Chapter 3, identify the most likely role being played by Angela, Raj, Nicole, David, and Erin. Briefly explain your reasoning for each (5 marks). Identify where Prairie Health appears to be in the customer decision-making process and explain what Marcus should focus on doing at this stage of the sale (2 marks). Finally, identify one character-based behaviour and one competence-based behaviour Marcus should demonstrate to build trust with this buying team. Explain specifically what each behaviour would look like in this situation (2 marks).
