A seizure is a convulsive body movement brought on by a random discharge of electrical impulses by the brain, the most dramatic of which is the grand mal seizure. The patient loses consciousness and experiences generalized body stiffening, the “tonic” phase, for 30 to 60 seconds and then violent jerking, the “clonic” phase, for 30 to 60 seconds.
