Directiоns: Fоr eаch оf the three questions below, choose ONE of the following options аnd provide а 2-3 paragraph (4-5 sentences per paragraph) written response. Do not answer more than one option (or you risk receiving zero credit). Please be specific, use course terminology, and include an example where asked. Respond ONE of the following: Option A: In Chapter 1, we discussed various frames used in the media to discuss issues of crime-and-justice. Select and describe THREE of these crime-and-justice frames (for example: faulty criminal justice system). For each frame, explain what this frame suggests is the "root" cause of crime in addition to the type of policy responses advocates of this frame would support. Then, provide a specific example of a law, policy, or practice that would be consistent with each of your chosen frames. Option B: Describe how American policing is organized, including the roles of local, state, and federal agencies. Then select THREE of the following policing strategies: community policing, problem-oriented policing, intelligence-led policing, or procedural justice. For each strategy, explain its philosophy, discuss at least one strength and one limitation, and give a specific example of it in practice. Option C: Explain the importance of Mapp v. Ohio (1961) and its relation to the Fourth Amendment of the Constitution. In your answer, include a brief summary of the facts of the case, the Court’s ruling, and the implications of the decision on the criminal justice system, including any "rules" established. Finally, select TWO exceptions to the rules established in the Mapp decision. For each exception, identify the landmark case that established it and explain the facts of that case, the Court’s ruling and reasoning, and what the exception allows. Grading Criteria (6 points): accurate use of course terms and concepts (2); addresses every part of the question with specific examples (2); clear organization (2).
